God and the Transgender Debate Review!
Who should read this Book: People curious
about what it means to be transgender. It is an excellent start for someone looking for truth
on the subject concerning the Bible.
What the Book says: People who experience
gender dysphoria or consider themselves Transgender should be welcomed in the
church. They should feel comfortable with their pastors, families, and parents
enough to talk about what they experience.
Secondly, their
identity should be defined in who Christ is and what he has done for us.
Where is my favorite quote:
The church's response
to those who identify as Transgender, and to those who struggle with gender
dysphoria but who are not actively identifying as Transgender, must
be—immediately and with integrity, "You are welcome here. You are loved
here."
Walker, Andrew T. God,
and the Transgender Debate: What does the Bible actually say about gender
identity? (p. 123). The Good Book Company. Kindle Edition.
When is this Book applicable in life:
Conversing with people who are Transgender, and displaying love for them. How
one can approach the subject delicately and use the correct terminology as to
not offend someone you are conversing with.
Why would someone bring this Book up in
discussion:
Being able to defend
one's position in Christianity can be done by correctly using the terms that
have been defined in this Book. As well as determining a guideline for how you
want to interact with transgender people...in love and truth.
For parents who have
kids in public school systems, the family must have a plan for dealing with
their children who have experienced a peer transgender in school. Parents will also
explain what the person is going through and ensure that special care is taken
to treat that individual with respect.
